All About Kids Clothes

By Hal Lewis

There are so many things to explore and do in a day. Kid's clothes can sometimes take a beating. There is always a mysterious stain which appears between being worn and being washed. The trick is discovering what it was that made the stain before it is too late. There are clothes which made it to the body before they materialize back into the laundry. When purchasing kid's clothes it is important to read the laundry label. Something which must be dry cleaned might not be the best choice for an overly active child. It is simpler to deposit in the washer and dryer than to run it to the cleaner's. Of course, there will be some things that have to be dry cleaned. For everyday wear, the simpler the better.

Kids seem to outgrow their clothing so quickly, it can seem almost painful to pay for some of the outfits. They look so good you can not pass them up. With proper care, these garments can have two or three lives before finally ending in the rag bin. Quality clothes are made to be passed on to the next sibling, cousin, or even friend. Children love new clothes and usually do not mind where they came from as long as their are trendy and fashionable.

Fashionable can be a matter of taste. Just because the jeans look like they were worn for a week on a jungle safari, does not mean they are trash. This is what some kids are wearing straight off the shelves at the mall. Kid's clothes have no rhyme or reason when it comes to fashion. It is just what ever everyone is wearing.

Accessories are important when it comes to this. When you start letting your child dress themselves, socks and shoes become an issue. Never mind you could not keep them on their feet for the last three years. It is now imperative these items match the rest of the outfit. They are designed with this in mind. Pink shirts with lace can be matched with the pink lace anklets. Boys have to wear the boots with the combat gear. It is amazing the fashion sense kids have when choosing their own clothes.

Now there are outer wear jackets and sweaters to match the outfits. Famous cartoon characters are popular with children of all ages. These fantasy creatures can be found on socks, shoes, hats, book bags, and anything else you can think of. Kid's clothes are designed to be something the children are willing to wear. Searching for the perfect Christmas outfit for months could be a total waste of time if you can not get it on the child you bought it for.

There are many fine resale shops now which specialize in this area. Some of these stores have saved parents a great deal of money. The parents are finding they can resell gently used items and use the proceeds in the store to buy other items. This is a great way to recycle some of those adorable outfits which only saw one or two wears. It is also a wonderful way to buy some of the designer labels for the kids, which some parents would not be able to afford otherwise. When shopping for your clothes, always take them with you. It can be surprising how much they have grown since the last time. There are many styles to choose from. It can be fun to make a day of it and just take your time to decide what you both want.

Designer Baby Clothes - Fashion for the "Little People"

By Frank Woods

Despite the fact that the child will outgrow the garments in very little time, well to do parent love to purchase fashionable items designed by the likes of Christian Dior, Kimora Lee, and others for their child who is completely unaware of the facts of fashion world.

Every year the top designers unveil their latest fashion creations for the little people of the world and fortunately today's infant have everything from their bonnets to booties fashionable. Keeping in mind the delicate skin of the infant and the toddlers the top fashion houses produce body suits, bibs, booties, and bonnets that are soft to the touch, beautiful to behold, cost many times more than the typical Kmart baby outfit and gentle to the skin in contact.

Perhaps the best known line of designer wear for infants comes from Christian Dior that includes items like the sweet 100% cotton Dior baby body suit with pink or blue snaps, the Dior teddy bear logo on the chest. One of the latest names in the world of designer baby clothes is that of famed photographer Anne Geddes. Getting inspired by the popularity of her famous photos of babies dressed up as bumble bees, ladybugs, sunflowers, and rosebuds, Geddes ultimately launched "annegeddesbaby," a line of clothing for infants. Such designer baby clothes will allow parents to dress their newborns as, well, bumble bees, ladybugs, sunflowers, and rosebuds. Another designer guru Russell Simmons an American entrepreneur, the co-founder, with Rick Rubin of the pioneering hip-hop label Def Jam, founder of another label, Russell Simon's Music Groups, and creator of the clothing fashion line Phat Farm. Baby Phat is an urban fashion line of clothing and other items especially for women and girls designed by Kimora Lee Simmons wife of Russell Simmons and creative director of Baby Phat. It is a sibling of the clothing brand Phat Farm that uses a sleek cat as the brand logo and also includes accessories for phones, jewelry, shoes and clothes.

Designer baby clothes though it may look very attractive but it may not be the easiest thing for many parent out there to purchase because they think making such purchase is just waiting money because their child will outgrow the garments in very little time. But still there are well to do families who show their interest in making their child look gorgeous and this could be possible only with these fashionable clothes.

Kids can make their own no-sew, homemade costumes and accessories. This article will show you a few ideas on making simple Halloween costumes and accessories.

A Milk Carton Cow Costume

A milk carton that resembles a cow at the same time would be a really cute no-sew costume to make! Young kids will especially love making this costume themselves. Simply cut out the flaps and a hole on two sides of a carton box for the arms to go through. Have your kid paint the box with a white base and black spots using non-toxic poster paint.

Accessories for this Halloween crafts for kids costume is a tail made of paper and yarn which you can attach to the lower part of the box. Simply cut out paper ears and horns and glue to a headband, which your kid can wear to complete the whole look.

Closet Costume

Costumes as Halloween crafts for kids does not always involve creating your own costumes. If kids will rummage through their old clothes, they will find items which they can assemble together creatively for their Halloween costumes. For example, they can use a red hooded sweatshirt for a Little Red Riding Hood costume; their PJ's for a Sleepwalker costume, and a black sweatshirt and pants for a Ninja Costume. Just add accessories like a basket, a teddy bear, or a mask made out of a plain T-shirt.

The Halloween Hats

There are easy Halloween crafts for kids that can show you how to make Halloween hats. For a witch's hat, draw out a semi-circle at the edge of a piece of black paper using a circular template. Cut out the drawing, fold the piece into a cone, and fasten with staples/glue. Cut out a circle (larger in diameter than the cone's bottom) from the same black paper and then glue or tape the cone on its center. This is your witch's hat. To make a sorcerer's hat, simply use the cone and paste cutout paper stars on it. You can also use glue and glitter to create the stars.

Making Halloween Wands

A witch is not a witch, nor a fairy a fairy, and sorcerer a sorcerer if they are without a wand. For this easy Halloween crafts for kids project, use a paintbrush instead of a pencil or straight tube for the wand stick. A paintbrush usually has a more elegant shape.

To make a Halloween crafts for kids' wand, spray-paint the whole paintbrush and let it sit to dry. Next, draw and cut out two identical paper starts. At the brush-end of the paintbrush, stick the two stars back-to-back, with the brush in between. Use other shapes for a witch's wand such as a half-moon. For a sorcerer's wand, place glue on the brush to harden it. Wind yarn or twine around the paintbrush for a Harry Potter-like wand. Spray-paint the whole paintbrush with gold or brown for that realistic effect.

To make any costume realistic and interesting-looking, always remember to add its matching accessories. Both are simple to make with easy Halloween crafts for kids.

Organizing Your Home - Purging and Sorting Childrens Clothes

By Rebekah Kogelschatz

Organizing children’s clothes is a never ending job. They tend to grow faster than the parent can keep up with their ever-growing bodies, especially in the early years when they seem to grow overnight. By keeping track of the clothes that fit and that do not fit, you can have an organized space for your children’s clothes without much hassle.

Here are tips of how to sort and purge the clothes that you no longer need.
First, you are going to sort the piles into two piles:
A: stained or torn and
B: good condition.

Second, you begin the sort. If you have been the recipient of hand-me-downs, there is a good chance you do not even wear many of the clothes that were given to your child. Sometimes they are not the style you would like or have a stain or two. Get rid of your guilt for not using the gift and sort the clothes into one of the two categories.

Third, check sizes on every piece of clothing. If it is the wrong size, sort it. If it looks like it could fit but you are not sure, bring the child in and try it on. Evaluate which category it belongs in and sort it.

Fourth, check the sizes on the seasonal clothes. What may fit now may not work for your type of weather. I have a lot of winter clothes that would currently fit my daughter when it is hot and humid, but will probably not fit in the winter. Take stock of what you can hang on to and sort the rest. You may want to find an alternative place to put seasonal clothes. Good options are the “space saver” bags or a sealing plastic container. If you are going to put them in the attic or basement, make sure they are sealed from rodents and moisture.

The next step is to evaluate the stained and torn category. If it is too shabby to give it away, make a rag pile and use the items for cleaning and messy jobs. It is hard to throw away good fabric, but if you must, do it.

Next, evaluate the good condition pile. There are now four possibilities for them:
1. Donate them.
2. Give them away to a friend or family.
3. Take them to the consignment store.
4. Sell them on eBay.

Only donate clothes to local organizations if they are wearable. Do not donate torn or overly worn clothes. The organization has to then dispose of them.

Family or friends may be ideal to take the clothes. Most people are willing to take free clothes and may pass along those they do not want.

Consignment stores and eBay are great ways to make some cash from your clothes. They may bring in more money that a garage sale, but they are more work. Most consignment stores have a “clean and ironed” policy and may require a hanger. Each eBay sale should be in the best condition possible to get the top dollar. Mostly only name brand items sell on eBay. Do your research before you take either of these options. Be especially careful on eBay with your shipping cost and do not lose money because you did not weigh the items.

With less clothes, the drawers and closets should be easier to maintain.

With these tips, your children’s clothes should be organized and neat with less hassle for morning dress times.

Save Money With Thrifty Tips on Kids Clothing Adjustments

By Basya Speshel

In a recent interview, we asked homemaker Nancy M. Wiley about sewing tips for adjusting children's clothing. This kind of adjustment can be made when an article of clothing becomes too small, or you purchase something that is not quite the right size. Some of her tips would actually be a great way to add design and special touches to any clothing item. Read on for Nancy's tips.

Nancy, how did you get started using lace for clothing adjustments?

I had two boys before the girl came along (4 1/2 years after the youngest son). I went right out and bought loads of lace! The lace stash (which I frequently add to) has come in quite handy as she grows and the dresses need lengthening.

What's your favorite way to use lace for adjusting your daughter's dresses and skirts?

I like to look at the dress and determine the most suitable method of lengthening that will keep in character with the dress. Occasionally there is a dress with a wide white collar and adding lace on the bottom would be out of character. So I'll find a suitable scrap of white fabric and add about 5 or 6 inches to the hem. Then it looks as though it were purchased like that. I will also add a bit of trim such as braid or rickrack to the inevitable hem line from dropping the hem to cover up the evidence that I've lowered it (I may add more somewhere else on the dress to tie it together). It's unfortunate that method just won't work with my boys' pants!

Do you have other tips for adjusting clothing for a modest child?

I also found that ladies' petite sizes fit my daughter. That offers more selection in the search for modest clothing, since adult clothing styles can be found to be more traditional. On short skirts, I've occasionally found that if I order a size or two larger but in the slim, I get the length she needs. Now that she is old enough to sing with the family, it's fun to find sweaters and or skirts (sometimes making them) that match and dress alike as mother and daughter.

How about your sons? Do you have tips for boys clothing?

Some of my sewing escapades include altering a tuxedo shirt for my oldest son last year(he is a freshman majoring in organ performance). The neck was too small and the sleeves were too short. I have a large stash of sheets I purchased just to sew with because of their higher thread count and poly/cotton blend that withstands wrinkles. I found some white that was as close a match as one could want for the shirt. I removed the old collar and sleeves, cut (I love single edge blades for this) open the seams and used them as a pattern. I reused the cuffs, as they were fine, and lengthened the new collar and sleeves. After changing the neck line on the shirt just a tad, I reassembled the shirt. He just about left the tux home when he was packing for school, but I insisted! He's now glad that he took it, as he wore it for the orchestra the other day for their first concert (he plays violin as well).

Thank you, Nancy, for your valuable tips!

Getting The Best Deal On Kids Shoes

By Morgan Hamilton

Parents often need to buy their children new kid’s shoes because most children grow fast. Young children can grow a size every year, making it necessary to buy new kid’s shoes every time you turn around. At least young children are not fashion conscious and you do not need to buy them expensive shoes. However, pre-teens and teenagers would often ask you to spend your whole salary on expensive footwear.

There are a lot of places that offer thrifty kid’s shoes. Payless is a good source for great looking shoes, but keep in mind that they might not be durable or high quality. These kinds of shoes are ideal for youngsters who outgrow their footwear quickly. However, Payless shoes would not be suitable if you need running shoes for sports or gym class. If you want to give your child expensive shoes, you can search for bargains online.

The only problem is that your child cannot try these kid’s shoes on before you buy them, and in some cases, shipping is slow. But if you want to give high-end, brand names shoes as a present for your son’s birthday, online bargains can be useful. Hop on online sites like eBay for some great deals on kid’s shoes.

If you are planning to purchase kid’s shoes from retail stores, you should keep a few things in mind. Since your child’s feet are constantly growing, it’s not wise to choose a pair that fits perfectly. You have to give them space to grow, but you don’t want your kid’s shoes to be too large that your children will trip over them when they walk.

Have your child try on the shoes, and let your child walk in them for a bit. Feel to see how much extra room there is, and ask them if they feel comfortable in their shoes. To make sure that your child’s footwear will not wear out quickly, remember to have a pair for school, and a spare pair for dirty play. Some detergent and a toothbrush are effective in keeping most shoes clean.

Baby Clothes Home Display

By Ron Maier Jr.

To add a touch of heritage to a child’s room, why not display some of their own baby clothing. These little memories of made of cloth look great on a display hanging rack made for a tabletop or dresser. As the child grows older they will love to use their own clothes for their dolls to play dress up. To make your own display rack, these are the things you will need:

• 2 porch spindles

• scrap wood

• hanging rod (for a closet; a wooden dowel will also serve)

• screws

• drill with screw bit

• scrap fabric

• spray adhesive

• 2 rosettes (used for closet bars)

• wood glue

• 2 decorative knobs

• paint (color is your choice; you can also use a wood stain if the wood is nude)

Take the porch spindles that you might have purchased at Home Depot or somewhere similar and paint them whatever color you wish, keeping in mind the colors of your child’s room or furniture. Then, cut two pieces of wood for the base of the rack and the top. The size depends on the size of rack you wish to build. To hold three or for garments, the base should probably be about 18x8 inches. Set aside the top piece for now. Fasten the spindles to the base using screws through the bottom of the base. To make sure that the base will not scratch your furniture, attach a piece of fabric to the bottom with adhesive. Sit the rack upright and screw on the rosettes. Now place the bar on the rosettes as you wood in a normal closet. Take the top piece of wood and fasten it to the spindles with screws. Lastly, you can glue the knobs on top of the rack as decoration. Of course you can be creative and pick any decorative items you wish.

Now you have made a fun new display rack for your children’s clothes. Place your kid’s clothes on the rod using baby clothes hangers, and the project is complete (wooden hangers may be the most decorative). Perhaps you will keep it in their room or perhaps you want it for your own. It quite possibly will become a family relic that will go on for generations.

Buying Clothes for Kids?

By Ron Maier Jr.

Have a baby shower coming up? Or maybe it is time to attend a toddler's birthday party. Whatever the occasion, buying clothes and apparel for kids can be quite a challenge if you don't know what to look for. You can't just pick out any cute jumpers you see on childrens clothes hangers. The gift giver needs to consider function, safety, convenience, as well as adorable qualities.

Before you even get started, you will need to know the sizes you are looking for as well as the lifestyle of the parents. It makes sense that the clothes need to appeal to the parents more than the kids, especially at a very young age. Old-fashioned frills and lace might not go over well with that new-age hip couple. When it comes to sizes, remember that babies and small children wear sizes based on their actual weight and height. Going by age alone is bound to get you in trouble. Check out the clothing charts that most children's clothing manufacturers provide to get an idea of the size you are looking for. Most infant sizes are newborn to 24M. Toddlers are usually 2T to 4T, and from there the sizes range from 4 all the way to 16 for girls and 20 for boys.

Once you have got the sizing sorted out, it is time to consider safety. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, or the CPSC, recalls apparel from childrens hangers frequently, due to an unsafe design. This might include small parts that could be swallowed or things that might get caught on the playground. For children nine months and older, federal safety regulation requires that pajamas, or sleepwear, must be either snug-fitting, or flame-resistant. As you browse childrens clothes hangers and racks, check the tags to see what safety precautions are built into the apparel.

New parents are always scrapped for time, so any way that you can make their life a little simpler will definitely be much appreciated. Check out the two-piece outfits so that parents don't have to find something to match, or think about baby clothes that snap at the crotch to make easy access for quick diaper changes. Elastic is always a great way to go to make sure kids can wear your gift for good while, and some clothes have built in adjustments to accommodate growth. Whatever you find, keep it simple by purchasing clothes that are machine washable.

When all of your ducks are in a row, the size, safety, and convenience, then it is time to pick something fun or cute. Almost every gift new parents receive will be cute, but if they don't fit, aren't safe, or create a hassle, it will never be used. Give clothing gifts worth giving by making the kid can actually wear them.

Organic Cotton Clothes for Kids

By Shula Achnairn and Linda Sones

How do you like to dress your child? Do you want him or her to look like a miniature adult or to be a child as long as possible? From my own observations there does seem to be a need in some people to dress children like mini adults which I feel is a pity. I would argue that these years are very precious and from my own experience as a mother I can tell you they pass all too quickly. I would be really interested to hear your viewpoint on this question. One thing which I am sure we will agree upon is that children’s clothes need to be versatile and give value for money.

There are some great clothes available now in organic cotton which is soft and cosy for your child because the cotton fibres are intact and not broken by the chemicals and machines used in conventional cotton farming and production of textiles. An important point to consider is that organic cotton is less likely to trigger allergies because there are no harmful chemicals used either in growing the cotton or in finishing the material. Organic cotton has maximum breathability because it does not contain anti shrink resins. But don’t worry all clothes sold on the website are sized to allow for shrinkage, but having said that it’s not a good idea to “cook” them in the tumble dryer but they are fine dried on a low heat. As ever I would recommend using an environmentally friendly washing powder like Ecover which has the additional benefit of being kinder to tender baby skin, but perhaps that’s just me on my hobby horse! Although colours and patterns are funky they are produced without toxic dyes and fasteners are nickel free. So again less likelihood of allergic reactions.

Clever designs which are produced with thought and care can make a lot of difference to your child’s comfort and that is really important for little ones. They can’t tell you when the material is harsh and rubbing or waistbands are constricting and pinching. But all this care and attention to detail does not mean that clothes need be boring and unattractive. Visit us at Sonesuk to see some of the lovely outfits we have on sale from dungarees to tee shirts. The new autumn range which will be arriving soon has even more clothes which are reversible; so not only have you two different tops in one garment, but on those occasions that seem to happen all too often with kids when you leave home with a clean top and arrive to find there has been an accident with an ice-cream or similar, no problem just turn it inside out. (This used to happen to me all too often on the way to the baby clinic!) Another clever idea is rollups on trousers and dungarees with contrasting patterns which can change the whole look. You might say more looks for less money. As the clothes are made with best quality organic cotton they will wear well and pass down to little brothers and sisters. So style for little ones is achieved without sacrificing that all important comfort factor and moreover they look like the small children they are.

Big Kids Clothes

By Jeanette Pollock

While plus size clothing is prevalent nowadays for adults – especially adult women – it’s extremely difficult to find for children. What’s not well understood is just how many overweight children there are and how vast the children’s plus size clothing market it.

Newsweek recently reported that about 13 percent of children under 18 are overweight or even suffering from obesity, as opposed to the five percent that were overweight in 1964. The report also stated an expectation for this trend to accelerate, with an expectation that one in three children will be overweight in the coming years.

Of course, the ideal is for these children to lose weight but this happens at a slow pace and in the meantime they suffer from harassment, and prejudice from peers and even adults.

Children’s obesity and image experts recommend that parents not let their overweight children hide out in oversized sweatshirts or T-shirts and baggy pants. These, say the experts, are not flattering, not socially cool for them, and just look sloppy. Their recommendation for plus size clothing for these kids is flare or boot cut pants. While children should be able to pick their own styles and colors to a large extent, their choices should be flattering too. Bare midriffs, a-la-Britney-spears won’t look good on a young girl suffering from obesity.

If kids are trying to be cool there are many cool accessories they can don even wearing plus size clothing. Jewelry, shoes, purses, backpacks and so forth are available no matter what their size. Because larger and fuller plus size clothing can look sloppier at times, it is important that children who are overweight or suffering from obesity keep their plus size clothing clean, free of rips and tears, and ironed. This will help their self image.

Every Kid Can Dress Like A Celebrity's Kid

By Ron Maier Jr.

Just like the adult fashion world, kid clothing trends follow not only what the celebrities are wearing but also what their kids are wearing. Celebrities spend enormous amounts of money on fashion for their children as well as their pets, so it can be expected that designers are catering to that demand. For most people, some of the outfits are far too expensive, but not all of these styles are unaffordable. There are many boutiques both in-store and online providing the latest in celebrity trends at moderate prices. Here is a short fashion preview to help in the search for great kid's fashion.

Possibly the most popular clothing brand for every age kid from tweens to babies is "Glamajama." This casual wear made from extremely soft, brushed cotton is comfortable and stylish. Glamajamas have a distinct glam rock appeal, with quirky slogans and metallic studs that keep kids comfy with a little humor. The matching lounge sets are very popular with celebrity moms.

"Crib Rock Couture" is another booming children's designer that has celebrities flocking. By combining nursery rhymes with hip rock 'n' roll designs, Crib Rock Couture is leading the industry in cool rock t-shirts and tees. Just like vintage wear is coming back in adult fashion, the Little Miss Muffet, the Three Blind Mice, and more classic nursery rhymes are coming back to give these hip Crib Rock Couture t-shirts a great throwback rock 'n' roll look. Just like the Glamajamas, they can be ordered online rather than having to travel to LA and shop on rodeo drive.

Online shopping opens up a world of fashion, especially for kid's clothes. So many of the top designers are located in LA and until recently could only be found in retail stores. Now, ordering online has made it possible for people all over the world to get their hands on the latest fashions without a trip to California. A prime example of this for children's wear is Fred Segal. Located on Melrose in LA, the Fred Segal department store is now available online. There are also a variety of retail vendors online who provide the latest in designer kid clothes. Lifesizkids.com is a great example of a retailer providing the best in trendy children's wear. As you search online, keep your eye out for names like True Religion, Oink Baby, Fortune Tees, Diesel, Bare Foot Dreams, and Angelic Genius. These are some of the top names in children's fashion, and if you get a chance to shop in LA, you will find many of these names on childrens clothes hangers in the upscale shops.

This is just the beginning of searching for children's fashion. Just because you might not have a celebrity budget or your own designer doesn't mean your kids can't dress that way. Keep your eye out for sales and online promotions. All of these innovative children's designers are offering specials and discounts constantly, so once you have found the style you are looking for, just keep shopping and you can find the perfect outfits.

Taking Care of Kid's Clothes

By Ron Maier Jr.

Kids are tough on clothes, so you have to be tough on taking care of them. It can be so frustrating having to buy another pair of jeans, another shirt or jacket because it is just worn out, when they are probably going to grow out of it before long. Some of this wear and tear can be prevented by taking a few extra precautions with your children's clothing. If you will take note of these simple tips on laundry and storage and spend only a couple extra minutes per day, you can keep your kids clothes looking great.

As you are gathering up your kid's clothes from around the house or out of the clothes hamper, be sure to empty all of the pockets and close all zippers (to keep them from snagging). Make sure you read all of the labels of newer clothes and check the ones you are not sure of, and follow those instructions carefully. Turn each of the colored garments inside out. This prevents a little bit of fading. The normal color separation is then appropriate. Be sure to keep denims and whites separate from colors for the first three or four washes. Make sure all stains are pre-treated and holes or tears are mended before you put them in the washer.

Keep lint-producing garments separate from those that attract lint, especially dark colored clothing items, and wash whites in hot water. Of course you should wash bright colors and darks in cold water. Even though dryers are extremely convenient, drying your kid's clothes on a clothes line will extend their life considerably. If you do decide to use a dryer, you should take the precaution of not overloading it and being sure to remove the clothes as soon as they are dry. Over drying is especially damaging to clothes.

Probably one of the most important parts of kid's clothing protection is storing the clothes properly. Many people do not have the right kinds of hangers to store their kid's clothes, and as a result, most of those clothes are folded, even if they really need to be hung. Purchasing some childrens clothes hangers will vastly improve the way your kid's clothes are stored. Childrens coat hangers are also designed to keep those jackets and outer layers stored properly. Some parents think it is silly to use childrens clothes hangers, but they will really make a difference in the lifetime of your kid's clothes. When it comes to folding, storing kid's garments in plastic containers will actually preserve them better, and it is important to add cedar chips if your house is known to have moth problems.

Just a few simple things and an extra couple of minutes to every wash day can keep your children's clothes looking new. Kids really are hard on clothes, but you don't have to stand by and do nothing. Take a little action and save yourself the trouble of replacing your kid's clothes too soon.

Finding Quality Children's Apparel

By Sarah Freeland

Finding quality children’s apparel doesn’t have to be a chore. With a few helpful tips, you can get your child’s shopping done faster and enjoy it more. The important thing is to focus on the fit and durability of the clothing. And, of course, it helps to know where to shop.

The internet is a great place to purchase children’s apparel. There are an abundance of websites available. One of these websites is Ebay.com. When shopping for your child on Ebay, it is a good idea to shop for name brand clothing. Ebay has so much kid’s clothing, and limiting yourself to name brand will ensure you get quality. The price will be discounted so much; you’ll be able to get something great for a lot less.

Another place to purchase childrens apparel is your local department store. Department stores carry so much inventory, you’re almost guaranteed to find something your child needs. Department stores also have discounted prices and kid friendly atmospheres. Having a shopping cart means your child can be with you no matter what age they are.

When shopping for children’s apparel, you might want to try sale shopping. Hitting the sales ensures that you get quality, stylish clothing for your child that is within your budget. The best time for sale shopping is around August, when stores lower their prices to target back to school shoppers. You can also find good sales toward middle or end of each season, since most shoppers tend to shop before or at the beginning of the season. You can also keep an eye on your local paper to let you know when specific sales will be going on.

However you choose to purchase children’s apparel, it is a good idea to keep in mind your child’s growth. Buying clothing that is a little big will ensure that the child won’t grow out of it too soon. If you shop without your child, keep in mind the store’s individual return policies, just in case the fit is off. And if you get stressed out, remember-your child will appreciate the great clothing you find for them!

Kid Pj's and Sleepwear

By Ron Maier Jr

Pajamas are a long time major player in the children's retail business. However, with a shift to more kids sleeping in T-shirts and boxers, traditional sleepwear is beginning to take a back seat. In order for the sleepwear industry to continue, their focus must shift toward advertising gimmicks and gifts.

Traditional children's night-gowns are just not as high in demand as they once were. Sure, in those winter months near holidays many parents still like to buy something pretty and comfy for their kids to run around the house in (especially when company is over), but as far as the normal everyday bed time goes, thermals, cotton T-shirts and shorts, and boxers are taking over. Most parents do not even consider the flame retardant feature to most children's pajamas when picking things out. Adults are buying pajamas less and less, and so they are finding them less important for their kids as well. Though this is changing what you find on childrens clothing hangers, actual sleepwear has found its place in another niche of the bedtime market.

By using novelty to emphasize sleepwear on the sales floor, industry leaders believe that sleepwear is far from sinking. The most effective technique for sleepwear sales thus far, is including specialty items along with the purchase of particular garments. This is especially useful for those pajamas that have a cartoon, super hero, or other theme that can be paired with action figure toys, teddy bear, or other popular kid's merchandise (depending on age group). This helps a parent to think about the value of the sleepwear in addition to another product, making them more likely to consider taking it home. Novelty pajamas are becoming more and more popular with the addition of three-dimensional screen-printing and all sorts of licensed images. Almost fifty percent of the current little girl's sleepwear that is sold has some specific character licensing. Character licensing sells shoes and sportswear to adults, why not pajamas for the kids. Disney of course is a major player in this. Those timeless classics such as Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Alladdin, and more give an incredible boost to the value of children's sleepwear.

With a little bit of creative thinking, the kid's pajama industry still has a full life to live in children's retail. Image licensing and combination gifts make pajamas more than just something for kids to sleep in. Instead, they give parents another idea for a fun and entertaining thing to get the kids, and if it serves a practical purpose as well, then it is a great thing to get for the kids any time of year.

Unique, Boutique Baby Clothes and Kids Clothing That Are Also Everyday Costume and Playwear!

It is so important for us to encourage our children to be unique and creative in all areas of their lives, including the way they dress. How many of us look at our kids and know they are just the cutest and should be on display for all to see. They are natural in their acting and their Imaginations are on overdrive! Lil’ Winged Wonders can transform our lil ones into an angel, fairy or dragon in seconds!

“All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts.” William Shakespeare
We act as the costume designer or dresser for our very own actors and actresses. I have a friend that has a son who on any given day could be James Bond in a Tux, Captain Hook from Peter Pan, or your local Doctor or firefighter. Its great that some parents recognize that there is only a short phase in ones life where unless we could all act out our Walter Mitty daydreams, well, there is only one point in our lives where we CAN get away with all those different costumes, when we are small, young and innocent. Lil’ Winged Wonders is a great way to support the fun and imaginative age of infants and toddler “costuming”. And in reality, our children are acting and learning new parts all of the time, what better way to help them learn?

When my middle child was two we paid a visit to the pediatrician. That particular morning, there was all sorts of going’s on in his bedroom as I heard him getting ready; he was and still is quite the “Get it done” kind of child. So he leaves his room with a smile on his face like you wouldn’t believe, dressed in what he thought was his absolute finest. My son had on a pair of Power Ranger shorts,--the waistband pulled sideways with the diaper sticking out the top ( he knew to sag before it was really popular), a bright yellow T shirt with something on the front that did not match the shorts at all, inside out, and for his shoes, he chose a pair of Velcro fastened Aladdin light up sneakers, of course on the wrong feet (well he has the right feet, but the left shoe was on the right foot and the right shoe was on the left foot).

It was no use to tell him to change so into the car we went. We make our appointment and into the office we go and lo and behold, Dr. Page came right out and complimented my son on his outfit and noted that my son must have picked out his own clothes that morning and dressed himself (it was that obvious). My little guy beamed ear to ear, and I mentally stored that for many years (now that he is in high school, I do have to tell him to pull up his pants)
“One reason parents get so upset about clothes is that they feel they'll be judged by their child's appearance. So it may help to remember that, in the long run, a child who has learned to make his own choices is more likely to feel comfortable and confident – outcomes that are much more important than just looking well-dressed.”—Dr. Benjamin Spock

Play and Imagination are the cornerstone of a child’s learning experience. Saving old Halloween costumes or pinning a kitchen towel on to act as a cape are great ways to stimulate play and creativity. Allowing a child to fabric glue buttons or fabric pant and design their own costume is important as well. And Clothing like Lil Winged Wonders appeal is at any time a child can feel like they can be a dragon, a fairy or an angel. And have Wings! All kids want wings or think of flying! Give a child the gift of imagination, with some creativity!

Stay on Top of Kid Trends

By Ron Maier Jr.

Major providers of toys, safety products, and children’s clothing must always stay closely attuned to the needs of the market. The boom in children’s apparel is a relatively new phenomena that is likely to change many times before settling into a mainstream norm, so retailers have their work cut out for them in keeping up with all of the new innovations in design and display. This is especially true for those trying to compete in the children’s clothing market.
In the year to come, it is expected that kid’s wear will continue to follow the adult fashion industry in design, especially for the growing “tween” demographic. Hip hugger jeans and cute spaghetti strap tops will continue to invade the market while ruffles and lace will remain common for the younger kid, spring and summer apparel. For the infant category, bib tops and raglan sleeves will continue in popularity. Baby girl’s apparel will still be decorated with lace and broderie with floral or butterfly patterns and boys will sport the nautical style stripes of red, white, and blue.

Jackets and coats are always essential to the kid’s retail department. Boys are going for biker and bomber jackets made from cotton, leather, or jersey knit. Girls will be scene in the popular pea coat design, but instead of that scratchy wool, they will be made from soft, thick woven cotton. For the bottoms, all jeans and pants are still going to be made from soft denims or cottons while showing off a new rugged/fashionable look, much like their parent’s jeans.

Though children’s clothes are increasingly becoming more fashionable, the emphasis on comfort will never leave the industry. Light and airy fabrics will always be used to keep kids cool on the playground and around the house on hot days. Safety is always number one in the children’s clothing world.

The standard for displaying all of the coming children’s retail trends is very high. The appropriate childrens clothing hangers must be used in order to compete with the new kid’s retail giants. Proper displays are simply expected, and as children’s clothing becomes more important to parents everywhere, their desire to properly hang their children’s clothes in their own homes will grow. Parents are spending more on their kid’s clothes these days than they are on their own, so display and hanging fixtures need to be held to the same standard.

Regularly reading children’s fashion publications and considering the competition should be a part of every kid retailer’s job. There is an amazing amount of profit to be made in this industry if you continue to do research. Staying up on these trends will always pay off.

Another Life For Baby And Child Clothing

In those first days after we bring home baby, it's hard to imagine that life will ever be any different than it is right at that very moment; sleepless nights, endless diapers, constant feedings, exhaustion, and, ultimately, unparalleled joy. You can't imagine this tiny baby being any bigger; a person who's able to walk, talk, and get dressed on his own. But grow he does; and before you know it, you're knee deep in baby and child clothing that seemed to fit just that very week and now is hopelessly inadequate.

Keeping up with baby and child clothing is like everything else that has to do with raising kids; it feels like you're always one step behind. Getting new clothes - however expensive - is the easy part. Knowing what to do with the baby and child clothing left behind can be what is tricky. Hand-me-downs are great and if you're able to put away some of the more gently used clothes for your smaller children then it will certainly save you quite a bit of money. But when you're dealing with a youngest or only child, the options are varied.

When in doubt about what do with baby and child clothing, think charity first. There are a great many reputable organizations that vastly appreciate any donations of baby and child clothing. Many of these noble groups deal with families who have very little and clothing - especially baby and child clothing - can make an enormous difference for them. Of course, you can always stay local and identify a family close-by who may appreciate some extra clothing. Additionally, keep in mind that charitable donations are tax deductible at the end of the year.

If you're in need of some extra money yourself, you may consider selling your outgrown baby and child clothing. There are several ways to go about this. First, many people choose to hold periodic yard sales where they offer household items and clothing. This can be a great way to reduce clutter in your home on a frequent basis and make some cash at the same time. Some neighbors even ban together on a yearly basis to organize a large yard sale; baby and child clothing, as you would expect, is a hot commodity. Just be sure that you are offering gently used, stain-free clothing for sale.

Another option for the sale of baby and child clothing is the use of consignment shops. Consignment shops allow you to bring your outgrown baby and child clothing to them, and if they accept it based on factors such as wear-and-tear and cleanliness, then they will offer it for sale in their store. Ultimately, you make a percentage of the sale. Consignment shops even exist online; there are now local stores that will accept and photograph your clothing and then offer it for sale on the Internet. Again, the successful sale of these clothes means cash in your pocket. In the end, your baby and child clothing can be just as special to someone else as it has been to you. Think twice before you condemn it to the trash; consider ways in which you can recycle these outgrown clothes.

How to Save Money on Kids Clothing

Every woman normally treat the period of pregnancy with positive emotion as she constantly dream of her bouncing baby's arrival to take his own palace in into this world. As for the her husband, supporting her heartthrob while her stomach bulges couple with high expectation of soon becoming a dad give him an air of worthiness. No doubt, babies are a great blessing to their loving parents. However it could be difficult and costly to raise children, especially when parents are not empowered with credible information about smart ways to purchase necessary items for them.
For example, they require infants' diapers and clothing until they're grown enough to be independent. Now, because clothing could turn out expensive, the question an average parent want answer to is, how can I save cost on my kids' clothing?

The first thing is to learn about budgeting
Know how much you earn and weigh it against the number of your kids, vis-à-vis clothing and other vital items needed in the house such as food and medicine. Prepare to be shrewd and shun superfluous expenditures, in addition to observing the few practical steps below.

Look for discount clothing stores
Search diligently for stores that sell or specialize on exclusive or discounts sales. You can save between 45% to 75% or more on top brands for kids.
Consider second-hand clothing shops.
Can you find stores dealing in secondhand clothing in your community? You bet they are available. Also you can swap clothes with your family members or/and friends who have older kids.

Take advantage of closeout sales
Sometimes financially distressed factories or big merchants do sell out overstocked cloths far cheaper than retail prices. They may not advertise directly to the public, but sell in bulk to big store owners who in turn pass the benefits down to parents.

Know when to buy
If you search online clothing stores, you will discover many are offering coupons for potential buyers to shop at discount for a stated period of time. Certain months are worth written down in your diary so as to easily take advantage of merchants' price crash. If you're in the US, the months of September, November and December are ideal to get fairly great bargain on kids' clothing.

Lastly reduce cost by avoiding clothing fads.
Instead go for classic wears because it has been proven that popular or clothing fads normally fade away as quickly as they come. A style that was in vogue and preferred 11 months ago may become obsolete and attract snares and giggles today. What does this mean to you? Money flushed into rat hole because your kids won't like to wear them again.

Product Review: Tie Dye Clothes for Kids

By Kara Kelso

My package arrived less than a week after ordering, and it was a pleasure to work with Kristine, the owner of Natural Life Store. Two items were ordered - a shirt for my 5 year old son and a dress for my 3 year old daughter.

My daugther was thrilled with her new dress, and my son loved his shirt as well. Both of them inspected the new clothes for a minute before trying them on and modelling them for me.

My son's shirt was blue & red, with green on the sleeves. It was long sleeved so makes for a nice winter/fall shirt. I mentioned to Kristine he was a size 4 or 5T depending on the shirt, and she sent a size 6-8, noting the sizes ran small. It fit him perfectly, and he even asked to wear it to school the next day.

My daughter loves to dress up, and this dress came in her two favorite colors - pink & purple. It was long sleeved, with a slightly long dress, making it great for fall or winter with tights.
Because of the professional dyes and fixers used, I won't have to worry about the clothes fading or running. This is good for us, since all their clothes are worn many times before out grown. Like described by Kristine, these clothes are the most vibrant and colorful tie dyed clothes I've ever seen. She uses only clothing with the best quality, and it shows.

Many other natural items aside from children's clothes can be found on The Natural Life Store. Some of these items include: Skin care products, cloth diapers, organic sheets, and adult clothing as well.

Tween Scene - No More Kids Clothes?

By Albert Medinas

Shopping for kids clothes is, if not fun, at least a relatively painless parental task. All a parent needs to know to buy clothes is the child’s age and favorite over-commercialized cartoon character. He then need only buy something with that age printed on the tag – 2T for a two-year old, 6X for a tall six-year old – bearing the appropriate Elmo or Dora the Explorer images. Not a flawless system, but one that has stood the transition from shopping moms to shopping, clueless dads like me. However, this system starts to unravel as your child approaches the tween years – generally recognized as the ages between nine and twelve. The tween years are similar to the toddler years in that your child feels the need to assert independence, test limits, and even push a few buttons. But there is the added confusion of raging hormones causing body changes, mood swings, and occasional fits of pique. At this age, clothing not only fits differently due to growth (and those darn hormones), but your young person begins to have a sense of his own style, or at least a sense of what his peers are wearing. No more Rugrats, Blue’s Clues, or Barbie clothing themes. No more kids clothes.

What will my kids want to wear?

Tweens begin feeling the need to express their independence from their parents by emulating their peers. It’s the prelude to full-blown teenager-hood, and as such, fashion plays a role. However, fashion and popular culture should never override parental wisdom, or common sense. Do we really need to see an eleven-year-old boy’s boxers billowing out of his low-slung pants like the braking chute on a drag racer? Should we really know what color underwear a ten year old girl is wearing as it climbs over the top of her jeans? Tweens will look to teens, and teen pop icons, for what’s “cool” to wear, and in so doing will see a proliferation of skin and undergarments. Leaving aside the issue of whether this attire is appropriate for anyone, these are definitely not kids clothes. Yet they may very possibly be the clothes your kids will want to wear.

No kids clothes? What should I buy?

Fear not, all is not lost! The aware parent can be fashion-forward and still lose the “babyish” kids clothes. Today’s tween/teen fashion seems to be centered on baggy and low slung, with an eye to 80’s Prep. Plain white tee shirts are popular for both boys and girls, as are polo shirts (yes, the collars are back up!). Loose fitting cargo pants, jeans, khakis and chinos are also worn by both girls and boys. Many of today’s jeans are low-rise, which means parents need to keep an eye out for peeping underwear and “plumber’s cleavage,” but the right fit can be found. As silk scarf belts are in for girls, obtaining this accessory for your daughter might help keep the jeans up at their proper height. Popular with boys is the silk (or silk-like) shirt over that white tee. Untucked, this also can help disguise pants that seem to be hanging at knee level. One way young ladies can be “skin-fashionable” without being inappropriate is by wearing Capri pants coupled with the ped-like “no-see” socks that don’t rise above the tops of the sneaker. Showing a little ankle may have been risqué in Queen Victoria’s day, but in today’s Britney Spears boobs-and-bellies world, the ankle is an easy compromise. These socks are also worn by boys, so stock up.

What’s this going to cost me?

Let’s face it - fashion can be expensive. And if my tween is going to be growing out of her clothes in three months, outfitting her could become prohibitively expensive. Fortunately, part of the problem is solved by the fashion itself. White tees, ankle-height socks, and even polo shirts are relatively inexpensive, and can be purchased at Target or Wal-Mart. However, some of the retailers that are offering these trendy kids clothes are on the higher end of the pricing scale. Abercrombie, American Eagle, Old Navy, and Gap are on the frontlines of kids clothes fashion, and are more expensive. It’s best for the budget-conscious parent to pick a few pieces of “anchor” clothing from these places that can be accessorized or added to from discount stores.

Remember: You are the parent

As your child grows out of her kids clothes and into tween clothes, remember who is in charge. A tween is yet a child, and needs parental guidance and supervision. You decide what is or is not appropriate attire. And, unless your tween has a high-end, low-carb, no-sugar lemonade bar, you are probably the one paying for the clothes. You can allow your young person to grow and express herself within your parameters, and make the transition out of kids clothes a smooth one.

There are many resources for parents to communicate with and help each other through each stage of child development. One such is the Parents.com website, which has message boards and forums for each age group. Check the tweens board to see what other parents are thinking of doing regarding their tweens.

Tips on Buying Clothes for Your Kid

By Wain Roy

Though it often sounds exciting, buying clothes for your kid can sometimes be truly challenging! The reasons aren’t hard to guess. If your child is a preteen, he or she’s more likely to throw tantrums than you’d expect your toddler to do. Preteens and teens are quite choosy and fussy when it comes to making a decision with dresses. Therefore, your sanity is at stake if you’ve ever thought of planning to buy them an outfit. However, buying for infants isn’t completely a peaceful activity. The sooner you bring a dress home, you’d find your little one to have outgrown that dress—it’s that fast they grow! Well, so given the madness in making a choice, here are some tips for busy mommies and daddies to help them on their buying.

  • Tip 1: Size matters when you’re buying for the toddler. They grow so helplessly fast that a 0-3 month size won’t survive their fit for long. Be wise and buy ahead of their current size. Go for a 6-9 fit. Exchange any such unwanted sizes with bigger fits.
  • Tip 2: Borrow as much as possible as it’s not worth buying continuously for the fast-growing infant. Thus, used clothes are often a great idea, especially with sleepers, undershirts and onesies.
  • Tip 3: Watch out for sales, discounts or auctions at local stores to cut down the cost on baby clothes, which your infant would hardly wear for a few days or may be weeks.
  • Tip 4: Always go for easy-to-wear and easy-to-open baby clothes, which the little ones can feel comfortable in and also the parents would enjoy handling.
  • Tip 5: If you’ve two kids, try reusing the first one’s clothes for the second one. But in case you’ve one male and another female, keep aside the unisex clothes for reuse. The frocks for your elder daughter would not particularly look pretty on your younger son.
  • Tip 6: For little older kids, you need to take a stock of their wardrobe before planning to buy their clothes. Sort your children clothes by season and separate out each outgrown dress for disposing of on charities and donations to make room for newer items.
  • Tip 7: After taking stock, list out which kind of gear your child would need more for that coming season—school outfits, sports pants, party dresses or just casuals. And buy accordingly.
  • Tip 8: Take your child along if you’re unsure about its size or fit on a particular outfit or brand. Allow them to choose, but do not over-pamper your kids with the costliest clothes to the extent that they dismiss the value of money.
  • Tip 9: Buy Child clothing that would suit your child’s personality. These can be instrumental in defining the appearance of your son/daughter/grandchild. Colors and cuts are therefore quite important.
